Wollastonite
Mineral Powder

An acicular calcium silicate mineral with a unique needle-like morphology. Reinforces polymers, accelerates ceramic firing, and enhances coatings performance.

Acicular Calcium Silicate

Wollastonite is a naturally occurring calcium silicate mineral (CaSiO₃) prized for its distinctive acicular — needle-like — particle shape. This high aspect ratio morphology delivers reinforcement properties that spherical or platy minerals cannot match.

In ceramics, wollastonite acts as a powerful flux that enables fast firing cycles while reducing shrinkage and warpage. In polymers, its needle-like particles provide stiffness and dimensional stability without adding excessive weight.

A.N. Enterprises supplies finely processed wollastonite powder with consistent acicular morphology, controlled brightness, and low iron content for applications spanning ceramics, plastics, paints, and metallurgy.

Industrial Applications

Wollastonite's unique acicular morphology and calcium silicate chemistry make it versatile across ceramics, polymers, coatings, and heavy industry.

01

Ceramics & Fast Firing

Wollastonite is a highly effective flux in ceramic tile and sanitaryware bodies. It enables significantly faster firing cycles by promoting rapid sintering, while its low shrinkage characteristics reduce warpage and improve dimensional accuracy in fired products. The calcium silicate composition also enhances mechanical strength.

02

Polymer Reinforcement

The needle-like particles of wollastonite provide exceptional reinforcement in thermoplastics such as polypropylene and nylon. With a 15:1 aspect ratio, it delivers increased stiffness, improved dimensional stability, and enhanced heat deflection temperature without the weight penalty of glass fibre, making it ideal for automotive and consumer goods components.

03

Paint & Coatings

In architectural and industrial coatings, wollastonite improves scrub resistance, crack bridging, and film durability. Its acicular shape creates a reinforcing network within the paint film that resists mechanical stress and moisture penetration, extending the service life of exterior coatings.

04

Friction Products

Wollastonite serves as a reinforcing filler in brake pads and friction linings, where it provides thermal stability and consistent friction performance. As a replacement for asbestos, it delivers the necessary heat resistance and mechanical reinforcement while being safe for both manufacturing and end use.

05

Metallurgical Flux

In steelmaking and foundry operations, wollastonite functions as a slag conditioner and flux. Its calcium silicate composition helps control slag viscosity, improve metal cleanliness, and protect molten metal surfaces from oxidation during casting and continuous casting operations.

06

Construction & Fiber Cement

Wollastonite reinforces fiber cement boards and other cementitious building products. Its acicular particles improve flexural strength and crack resistance while maintaining workability during manufacturing. It is increasingly used as a natural mineral alternative to synthetic reinforcing fibres in construction applications.

Quality & Consistency

Every batch of wollastonite undergoes comprehensive testing to verify morphology, chemistry, and physical properties before dispatch.

Morphology

Consistent Acicular Shape

Our processing preserves the natural needle-like crystal structure of wollastonite, maintaining a high aspect ratio that delivers the reinforcement and fluxing performance our customers depend on.

Purity

Low Iron Content

Fe₂O₃ is controlled below 0.5%, ensuring high brightness values of 85–93% suitable for white ceramic bodies, light-coloured coatings, and aesthetically demanding polymer compounds.

Chemistry

Consistent CaO & SiO₂

Calcium oxide and silica content are tightly controlled within specified ranges, ensuring predictable fluxing behaviour in ceramics and reliable reinforcement performance in polymers and coatings.

Testing

Full Characterization

Every batch is analysed for chemical composition via XRF, particle size distribution via laser diffraction, brightness measurement, and moisture content before release to customers.

Stability

Low LOI & Moisture

With loss on ignition below 1% and tightly controlled moisture levels, our wollastonite delivers consistent processing behaviour and minimal volatile-related defects in fired or moulded products.

Packaging

Protected Dispatch

All products are packaged in moisture-resistant bags and shipped with complete certificates of analysis documenting chemical composition, particle size, brightness, and moisture content.
